The Loch (with no monsters)

” If you choose not to find joy in the snow, you will have less joy in your life, but still the same amount of snow. “

Black Friday in a big city was always a day that I shut the doors and stayed inside. Mayhem was the only thing happening out there. But this year we packed up the car and headed out to the boonies. Well, sorta.

We spent last Friday night at a parade in Estes Park, with holiday floats and Christmas lights. There was free hot chocolate and a lot more people than I was expecting. It was a nice way to feel a little sense of community (even if it was someone else’s community) that has been lost for a while.

The next morning we headed up to RMNP to see the Loch. It was a cold, snowy walk up but the frozen lake was spectacular and a fun, windy place to sit and grab lunch. We had a not so unexpected guest come and harass us for scraps. His bright blue feathers made it hard to be mad.

The Elf Express

We watched the Estes Park Catch the Glow parade the day after Thanksgiving.

Christmas Card

A quick picturesque stop on the trail to the Loch.

Miniature

Sometimes it’s hard to not feel small when you’re surrounded by mountains.

A Snowy Beach

We had lunch on a nice wavy beach of ice and snow.

Stellar’s Jay

This bright jay wanted to snag a bit of our lunch.
